Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins, think chicken, fish, eggs, beans, and legumes. BCAAs are the only amino acids that are metabolized in skeletal muscles. Therefore they speed up the muscle recovery process by decreasing exercise-induced muscle damage and promote muscle-protein synthesis. That is why BCAAs are often recommended to help repair damaged muscles, decrease muscle soreness and increase muscle function.
